Experience a collective moment of reflection and exchange among members of the educational community, and contribute to the development of recommendations.

A key highlight of Cnesco’s international comparison conferences (ICC), the participatory workshops provide a structured setting where scientific knowledge and professional practice come together.
What is a participatory workshop and what is its role?
Held after the public sessions, each workshop brings together around twenty participants simultaneously around a specific issue linked to the conference theme.
The aim is to collectively produce diagnostic insights and draft recommendations. Participants draw on the scientific resources produced for the conference (sent out in advance) and on exchanges with international experts and decision-makers during the public sessions, in order to compare this knowledge with their own practice and field experience.

Facilitation and format of a workshop
Each workshop focuses on a main issue, broken down into three sub-questions identified by Cnesco. A lead facilitator runs the session, supported by two other facilitators, one of whom is a Cnesco team member.
To encourage exchanges, participants are divided into three sub-groups around tables, each working on one sub-question. At regular intervals, the groups rotate to a different table, while one person remains to provide continuity and summarise the previous discussions.
This format promotes:
- in-depth exchanges in small groups;
- recognition of the diversity of educational contexts;
- a gradual flow of ideas across all participants;
- collective input across all of the workshop’s sub-questions.
At the end of the discussions, participants jointly formulate draft recommendations. These proposals are then synthesised by Cnesco to feed into the conference’s final recommendations.

Who can take part in the participatory workshops?
The participatory workshops are open to all members of the educational community: teachers and trainee teachers (from nursery to upper secondary school), parents, students (secondary or higher education), school principals and head teachers, teacher trainers at Inspé institutions, educational advisers, school inspectors, school psychologists, and representatives of associations.
Participation arrangements
Registration for the participatory workshops opens at the same time as registration for the public sessions, in September of the conference year. Participation is in person only and requires prior attendance at the public sessions, in order to have a shared understanding of the issues being addressed.
