Baccalaureate

Summary

While the baccalaureate is the subject of debate in France every year, this model of national external school assessment has grown significantly over the past 15 years in OECD countries, driven by the demands of parents, universities and employers.

To move beyond preconceived ideas about the baccalaureate and shed light on the debates surrounding it, Cnesco addresses the following questions: Does the baccalaureate promote student learning? What role do optional subjects play in the surge in distinctions? Has the baccalaureate truly become more accessible in France? Do students have equal chances of passing the baccalaureate across all regions of France?

Cnesco has accordingly published a topical note that synthesises international comparisons, findings from statistical surveys and research.
